Weather

The weather in Missouri is unpredictable. In one day it can range from sunny and 92°, to high winds and rain at 50°.

Missouri mornings can be chilly with heavy dew. But most of the time it's warm and partly cloudy with mild evenings.

Be Prepared

You can't say enough about the importance of being prepared for fast, extreme changes in the Ozark area weather.

Weather Related Items You Might Consider Bringing:

  • A warm shirt with long sleeves
  • A light raincoat
  • Extra pair of dry socks (in a container that will keep them dry)
  • Warm, water-proofed shoes
  • Extra towels
  • Suntan lotion and sunglasses
  • Umbrella
  • Longjohns
  • A sealable plastic bag to put your shoes in at night. The morning dew can be pretty heavy and wet shoes can ruin your whole day.

Missouri Mud

The mud in the Missouri Ozarks contains a large portion of clay, so it clings tightly and dries hard. Be sure to bring comfortable, durable shoes.

Large thunderstorms occurred during three of the four InterFuses, turning the main road into mush that even sucked in 4X4s. In the case of heavy rains, you will have to park in designated parking areas and have your gear transported by the OA Express (a tractor pulling a trailer) to your campsite. Rain or shine, driving after you are set up will not be allowed in order to preserve the land as we found it.

Be prepared for at least a little mud. Bring shoes that can handle this.
