Volunteer Support Coordinator

Assists Pre-Event Coordinators and Team Leads with volunteer placement and online volunteer communications. Also helps raise awareness of different volunteer positions.

Head Gatekeeper

Experienced Front Gate person who will train and coordinate the Greeters, and monitor the camp entrance. This Team Lead will carry a provided radio and must be available during open gate hours. This Lead will also help organize supplies for the Gate and coordinate Gate decorations.

Assistant Gatekeepers

These people will assist the Head Gatekeeper and fill in for her in specific shifts so she can enjoy InterFuse too.

Front Gate Greeters

Front Gate Greeters create the first experience at InterFuse. Greeting is a wonderful way to plug-in if you are new to the community and a good way meet tons of new friends!

Greeters spend two-hours at the Front Gate, greeting & registering new arrivals and taking tickets. There's no cash box to worry about. Greeters will receive training and a short list of procedures from a Gate Keeper before InterFuse and at the event. A radio will be located at the Gate to stay in touch with the Gate Keeper.

Effigy Construction Co-Leads

Highly skilled carpenters who leads a crew to build the Main Effigy early in the event.

Assistant Effigy Construction Lead

A highly skilled carpenter who assists the Effigy Construction Lead.

Effigy Construction Crew

Come build the Main Effigy, play on it, and watch your creation burn in a giant fire Saturday night. Construction or woodworking skills very appreciated but definitely not needed. You'll need to be able to arrive at InterFuse for Wednesday Work-Day or arrive on Thursday.

Effigy Decoration Co-Leads

These crucial people lead the Effigy Decoration Team and coordinate plans for decorating the Main Effigy.

Effigy Decoration Team

Put finishing touches on the Main Effigy after it is built. Help come up with decorating ideas and animate the effigy with light, sound, paint, engravings and other fun stuff.

Effigy Arsonist Lead

Handpicks and leads the Effigy Arsonists Team in lighting the Main Effigy on fire. Coordinates with other team leads before and during the Main Burn.

Effigy Arsonists Team

Prepares the Main Effigy for ignition.

Infrastructure Kitchen Krew

We will be preparing meals for the full time volunteers' lunches and dinners, Wednesday thru Saturday.

Volunteer Floaters

These little dumplings report to the Volunteer Wranglers Station for their shifts and are then distributed to various areas that are lacking volunteers. Volunteer experience is not required but is certainly helpful.

Earth Guardians Co-Leads

Leads and promotes LNT educational and practical projects before, during and after the event.

Earth Guardians

These volunteers assist and educate everyone at InterFuse with the Leave No Trace concepts and recycling suggestions. They also maintain Lost And Found, offer recycling collection, and organize roving patrols to reward (or maybe embarrass!) campsites for keeping their scene clean. There are opportunities to participate before, during, and immediately after InterFuse. Volunteering as an Earth Guardian does NOT obligate you to be a member of the EG Special Forces. Please let us know whether you’re volunteering for general EG, EG Special Forces, or both.

Earth Guardians Special Forces Captains

Lead the EG Special Forces in the Campground MOOP Sweep on Sunday afternoon.

Earth Guardians Special Forces

This is a crack team of Earth Guardians with one focused mission: Make a concerted sweep of the land on Sunday afternoon to mop up and eradicate any MOOP (Matter Out Of Place) that is overlooked by everyone else. The Special Forces Captains will provide garbage bags, rubber gloves, and tools. While the Special Forces are part of the Earth Guardians, you do not have to participate in other EG activities if you don’t want to. Please let us know whether you’re volunteering for general EG, EG Special Forces, or both.

TLA HMFIC

The Leisure Army Lead (TLA Head Mother Fucker In Charge) coordinates all Leisure Army work efforts at InterFuse and organizes TLA supplies. The Lead will carry a provided radio and be available during Gate hours.

The Leisure Army (TLA)

Folks who get things done... whether it's helping move some logs, or assisting with the assembly of the main sculpture and other infrastructure, The Leisure Army members are on call for just about any job that requires a little elbow grease.

Fire Goddess

Experienced fire performer who plans and coordinates the Pre-Burn Ceremony. Responsible for designing the ceremony and ensuring all fire performers have safety measures in place during the pre-burn fire performance.

Assistant Fire Goddess

This person will assist the Fire Goddess in planning and coordinating the Pre-Burn Ceremony, and will fill in for her if necessary.

InterRanger Lead

Must be an experienced Ranger. The Lead Ranger will educate other Ranger volunteers before and during the event. The Lead will be on call with a radio for a majority of the time during InterFuse. The Lead will help organize supplies for the InterRangers.

InterRanger Co-Leads

These people will work closely with the InterRanger Lead and be his right hand Ranger. The InterRanger Co-Leads will take over for the Lead if the Lead becomes unavailable for whatever reason. They must either have been a Ranger at Burning Man or been previous InterFuse participants. It's a plus if you have had both experiences!

Shifts for the Co-Leads can be very flexible.

InterRangers

Do you want to meet lots of people? Do you enjoy solving problems and being helpful? Ride the Edge of Chaos. Be a Ranger!

Anyone skilled or trained in psychology, social work, medicine, First Responder work, or Firefighting is also urgently needed and would be a very valuable part of our crew.

Shifts are two hours. All InterRangers except folks involved in the Pre-Burn Ceremony need to help maintain the perimeter at the main burn.

Front Gate Handout

Coordinates with the Webmaster to create the Front Gate Handout booklets prior to InterFuse and delivers them to Gate on setup day.

Drum Lead

This experienced drummer sets rhythms for drummers of all skill levels during the Pre-Burn Ceremony and Main Burn. The Drum Lead also relays Pre-Burn Ceremony plans to the drummers.

Assistant Drum Lead

This trained drummer assists the Drum Lead and fills in for the Drum Lead if he is unavailable.

Parking Lead

Lead the Parking Gurus and Parking Perverts and coordinate with other Leads via radio. Work with Event Planners/Coordinators to plot out overflow parking areas and mark off these areas on-site. This is who Leads radio when a parking problem arises (stuck cars, etc.).

Lead the Parking Perverts and coordinate with other Leads and Perverts via radio. Work with Parking Lead to fill volunteer spots and mark off parking areas on-site. Parking gurus will have the ability to issue parking permits on a case by case basis, if necessary. Shifts could be half day or whole day, depending on the Lead's preference.

Parking Perverts

We're the Parking Perverts. We show people how to wedge it in when it's a tight fit, help them unload and get a ride when it's wet, and help people find a place to put it when they just can't seem to figure out where it goes! If it doesn't rain, then the main job would be to park cars in overflow lots. Shifts are 2 hours.

Safe Tent Lead

Leader of the Safe Tent Sages. Facilitates an environment where people can go if their InterFuse experience gets too overwhelming.

Safe Tent Sages

The Safe Tent crew takes care of all in attendance by providing basic first aid, information, a place to chill, and friendly ears to listen. Skills in basic first aid and customer care are necessary for this sort of work. Shifts last 4-6 hours (we're kinda flexible that way). We work in active cooperation with the InterRangers to help ease their work load.

Sanctuary Lead

Sanctuary crew team leader.

Sanctuary Crew

Sanctuary is looking for volunteers who have experience in harm reduction, crisis prevention/intervention, and mental and behavioral health counseling. Anyone who has experience in any form of meditation and/or guided meditation is also asked to volunteer. Although formal training in these areas is desired and would be highly beneficial, it is not necessary. Some of us are just amazing critical thinkers and problem solvers or respond well in crisis or high stress situations. A calm and nurturing demeanor is required to be a part of Sanctuary, regardless of what types of situations we may encounter we must maintain neutrality and a calm awareness of the states of those we are helping, on every level. Signage Lead

Responsible for coordinating and creating the many signs needed for InterFuse and getting them to their designated locations.

Off-Site Transportation

Transports InterFuse infrastructure supplies between Kansas City and the Shriners Club Campground.

Ticket Creation

Coordinates art submissions in order to design IF tickets. After community vote, works with Event Coordinators to print tickets in preparation for ticket sales.

Ticket Fulfillment Team

This team coordinates ticket sales using multiple media to fulfill and mail all InterFuse ticket orders.

Webmaster

Creates and maintains the InterFuse area of the Midwest Burners website.
