The Main Event

At the heart of InterFuse is a giant sculpture (sometimes called "The Man" or "The Main Effigy"), which is set on fire at the height of the event.

The Main Effigy

The 2011 Effigy Construction Crew is deep in the project's design phase and will post new information here as it becomes available.

As InterFuse 2011 approaches, much more information will be found here including the effigy's basic blueprints, a detailed effigy description, notes on how you can participate, and more. Come back soon!

If you would like to volunteer to help build or decorate The Main Effigy at InterFuse, use the form at the bottom of the Volunteer page. You will be contacted by email with additional information.

NEWS UPDATE: The time for Saturday's Main Effigy Burn is 10:00 PM. Tell your neighbors!

The effigy will be closed off at 4:00 PM on Saturday so the Arsonists can prepare it for the burn. All art, messages, decorations, mini-effigies, etc., must be piled around the Main Effigy by this time.

A Personal Note From The InterFuse 2011 Effigy Decoration Co-Lead:

Hellloooooooo Burners!

Have we got a show WITH you for Circus Maximus!

This year's effigy is fully interactive with some fun features. For those of you who didn't get to see the effigy model at the InterFuse 2011 Kickoff, it is the biggest effigy InterFuse has seen yet: we have a double-decker funhouse to play on! The ground level will be fully enclosed by wall fabric canvas and fringed in gold trim. There will be a giant lion head at the main entrance and four other slits to slip on inside for some fun house play.

The interior will be loaded with black lights, string art, fun house mirrors, pillows, rope swings, and a UV-reactive paint station for use in decorating the inside of the tent.

There will be two geometric rope gyms on the outside and a ladder on the inside to access the first level, where there will be archways with string art and four jester/clown corner posts for lighting the structure.

Bring Offerings

You’re invited to leave XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXx to accompany the XXXXXXXXXXXXXXxx into the Inferno on Saturday night. Make sure that all art you leave is made of organic materials that are not toxic to burn. Please secure all mini-effigies and added art so it doesn’t blow away and create MOOP (Matter Out Of Place).

The effigy will be closed at 4PM on Saturday to prepare it for the burn. You may not decorate it, add art, or rummage through the Treasure Chest after this time.

The Burn

On Saturday night at 10:00 PM, InterFusers will gather at The Main Effigy in center field. Fire spinners, drummers and other performance artists will build our energies to a fever pitch. Then we will set fire to the effigy and see what happens!

But the celebration doesn't end there! The energy we build will be dispersed through the InterFuse community as participation kicks into high gear everywhere, all night along.

There is no meaning assigned to the burn. It's completely subjective. Each person comes away with their own personal meaning.

"Yes, dance. Dance and dream. Dream that you’re Mrs. Henry Jekyll of Harley Street, dancing with your own butler and six footmen. Dream that they’ve all turned into white mice and crawled into an eternal pumpkin."
