Location & Maps
Ozark AvalonLocated on the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River, Camp Ozark Avalon stewards a 150 acre nature preserve. Groves, woods, meadows, a three-acre lake for swimming, an established sweat lodge, hiking trails, and many natural shrines are found here. Ozark Avalon offers running water and hot showers. All persons who respect nature are invited.
Once inside, the main road curves like a big horse-shoe, with many large camping areas on either side. The road is flat but not paved.
Ozark Avalon is lush with trees and vegetation because it is located on the northern edge of the Missouri Ozarks region. Livestock from neighboring farms often graze nearby and the grassy camping fields are well maintained by the Ozark Avalon staff. The campground is completely surrounded by forests, valleys and fields.
It's truly a beautiful place.

Restrooms
InterFuse provides plenty of sanitized and well stocked restrooms.
Remember, if it didn't come from your body, don't put it in the potty. Porta Potties are not your trash can. Anything other than one-ply toilet paper and body fluids will clog the cleaning machine. If you're being self-sufficient and bringing your own toilet paper, please use one-ply paper.

Frog Bog - Restrooms And Showerhouse
The center of personal hygiene at Ozark Avalon is a wonderful structure called
Frog Bog. It uses solar efficient roofing to cover two, large, hot water personal showers, two restrooms,
and a two sink countertop with mirrors. It also has a wood deck on the back with two open-air showers.
Frog Bog is all that plus artwork and a view of the forest.
The Frog Bog toilets are composting toilets. The way to use them is to do your thang, cover your thang with a couple scoops from the sawdust barrel, and then CLOSE THE LID. This will keep Frog Bog from smelling like an Elephant pen when you're trying to take a shower.
Also, anything that doesn't come from your body or the toilet paper roll has to be picked out of the poopy compost. So don't use the toilets as your trash can!

On-Site Water
There are three large drinking water spigots (not counting Frog Bog) located in the camping areas at Ozark Avalon. The water is under pressure so be careful when filling small containers. There are also sinks and hot showers at Frog Bog, near the Front Gate.

On-Site Ice
Ice is an essential part of a multi-day Burns' infrastructure. We don't want a bunch of people getting food poisoning and we don't permit in-outs to go purchase more ice. So, like Burning Man and various Regional Burns, Midwest Burners is allowing ice sales as the exception to our decommodified space.
Since InterFuse is now a 4 day event, our host, Ozark Avalon, is providing the ice service for InterFuse 2008.
Ice Location: between Front Gate and the trailers
Days & Times Available: Friday and Saturday, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
Price: $3.00 for a 7lb bag. Cash only please.
On-Site Electricity
There is no on-site electricity. If you want power you'll have to generate it yourself.

Local Stores
You should have everything you need before entering Ozark Avalon.
If traveling from the East (St. Louis): stop in Columbia to buy ice and other last-minute necessities.
If traveling from the West (Kansas City): there are several convenience stores just off the highway before you get to exit 111.
There is a gas station convenience store at the top of exit 111, but don't count on it having ice available. They've run out of ice and other basic items in the past.
Missouri Mud
The mud in the Missouri Ozarks contains a large portion of clay, so it clings tightly and dries hard. Be sure to bring comfortable but durable shoes.
Large thunderstorms occurred during three of the four previous InterFuses, turning the main road into mush that even sucked in 4X4s. In the case of heavy rains, you will have to park in designated parking areas and have your gear transported by the OA Express (a tractor pulling a trailer) to your campsite. Rain or shine, driving after you are set up will not be allowed in order to preserve the land as we found it.
Be prepared for at least a little mud.
