What events will you list in the MWB Events Calendar?
1) Official Midwest Burners Association-organized events
2) Midwest Burners member-organized events
Why do you restrict the type of events you’ll list?
We narrow the scope of our Events Calendar because the purpose of our website is to serve the Midwest Burners Association and its members. The Events Calendar supports our organizing efforts. There are plenty of general art, music, and community websites for folks to promote other events.
What is an "official" MWB (Midwest Burners) event?
An event organized by the MWB Association, ie. InterFuse and HullabalU.
What is a "member-organized event?"
An event organized specifically by any MWB member(s) with the purpose of socializing and/or artistic collaboration with other MWB members, ie. house parties, outings, camping trips, art walks, meet ‘n greets, craft nights, etc.

Promoters who are MWB members and are throwing events primarily for the general public may not use our Events Calendar for promotion, even if he or she wants other MWB members to attend. For example, a festival promoter may not list his or her festival here, but, a member may organize a group outing to visit that festival and may post that outing information as an event.
What is the Midwest Burners Association's connection to member-organized events?
The Association supports members’ community-building efforts by spreading the word to other members through our online resources. Member-organized events are spontaneous, unofficial, friendly gatherings.

The Association is not responsible for organizing these events and does not control them.
I am a MWB member organizing an event to socialize with other members. What information do I need to submit to be listed in the Events Calendar?
Your member-organized event listing needs to have an organizer with a phone number or e-mail address so folks can contact him or her with questions (the MWB Webmaster can't field questions about your event). Your event listing also needs an address, meet-up time and date, and meet-up location inside the event, if relevant. The point of the Events Calendar is to bring Midwest Burners members together. It’s not useful to merely state that you’ll "be at First Fridays sometime tonight."

It's a good idea to get your event listed a few weeks in advance (or more) so Burners have time to see your listing and can plan to attend.

You can submit an event listing request here.
I am MWB member who is organizing an art or music event primarily for the general public, but I would like to invite other MWB members. How do I do this?
You may post an invitation on the Midwest Burners Yahoo Group. We love to hear about cultural events in the area! We do not like to be treated as a consumer base though. Please personalize your invitation by introducing yourself and your event. No impersonal e-fliers please. Invite us like you would invite your friends.

Remember that any Yahoo Group posting that is not art, music, community, or Burner related needs to have "OT" at the beginning of the message title (meaning Off Topic). If unsure, just put "OT" in the title.

Example message title:
[OT] Invitation to spin fire at the Wichita Arts Center
You state that member-organized events must be primarily for Midwest Burners members. Does this mean that I am required to verify the membership of everyone who participates in my member-organized event?
Organizing your event "primarily for Midwest Burners members" simply means that you aren’t promoting your event to the general public. Member-organized events are not required to verify membership. This would be pretty tedious and lame at a house party! While not required, it is a good idea to have gate registration and check membership at large events like group camp-outs and Burns.
I am a member who is organizing an event for Midwest Burners members and their guests. I plan to have gate registration. I would like some way to verify participants’ membership. Would you give me a copy of the membership roster? If not, then how do I verify membership?
The Midwest Burners Association does not release copies of the membership roster. Even an event planner wouldn’t want his or her name given out freely like this! The best way to verify participants’ membership is to require them to present a copy of their membership confirmation email at your registration table.

If people have lost their original membership confirmation email, they may request another one no less than 24 hours before your event to get a replacement.
