Burners bond with each other through art. So our formal and informal gatherings usually center around art of some kind.

Midwest Burners members meet often for outings, road trips, art projects, art walks, house parties, camping trips, etc. While the Association encourages and supports these gatherings, these events are informal and not organized by the Association.

The Midwest Burners Association is our organizing instrument to connect with each other. Direct examples of this instrument in use are our two annual gatherings, InterFuse and HullabalU, which are formally organized by the Association. Midwest Burners also indirectly connects people by providing communication tools and information centers like this website and the Midwest Burners Yahoo Group.

These tools empower members to take the initiative and meet with each other on their own.

Orphanarium
An Orphan Burn In Missiori

August 22-24, 2008
Ozark Avalon
Boonville, Missouri

Hey gang, just wanted to let everyone know about an orphan burn happening for those of us that can't go to Burning Man this year. It's called Orphanarium. It will be held August 22-24, 2008 at beautiful Ozark Avalon. It's only $10 per person for the weekend.

We have an effigy in the works, a fire lead in place so fire performance is more than welcome, and lots of plans for a great time. Hopefully everyone that isn't going to Burning Man can make it.

We also have an event Tribe group if you're interested in joining: tribes.tribe.net/mwb_orphanarium

Orphanarium is not Midwest Burners Association sanctioned, but MWB membership or being sponsored by a MWB member is required. (Become a member of Midwest Burners, it's FREE!)

KC Meet And Greet
Saturday, July 12, 2008
4:00 PM
Rotary Park (aka Lake Park)
Blue Springs, Missouri

Come play with us again at the park!

Rotary Park is a 12 acre park featuring a small lake (more of a pond, really), several pieces of public art, two playgrounds, tennis and basketball courts, and a sand volleyball court.

We will have a grill and charcoal for cooking out, so bring your meat (or meatless alternative) and whatever else you would like. Alcohol is a-ok (cans are always better than bottles, if possible) and restroom facilities are available.

Unfortunately, as in June, we are not permitted to have any fire play.

The best way to get to the park is to take exit 20 (Hwy 7) south from I-70 and follow it to Vesper road. Go left on Vesper and you'll see the park. There is additional parking across the street if the lot in the park is full.

InterFuse 2008 Prep Day
Saturday, April 12, 2008
8:00 AM
Ozark Avalon
Boonville, Missouri

We will meet around 8am and walk the land with an OA map to ensure the best plan of attack ;). We will then divide off into groups and carry on from 10am until dusk, cutting out the thorny bushes, clearing pathways across the bend and overall ground maintenance. Let's band together, get the land in great shape and enhance our Interfuse experience!

Some are camping overnight and will continue again on Sunday for a bit so feel free to do so as well, but please limit the craziness to a minimum :). All Prep Day volunteers get to camp for free at Ozark Avalon over the weekend of April 12-13.

If you've been thinking about joining us, do it! There are plenty of options for carpooling from St Louis and Kansas City and I'd be happy to forward the info on to you. Thank you to all who have already volunteered and are bringing tools!

The T-Rex restaurant is like a cross between the Rainforest Cafe and Bill Gates' budget. It has a prehistoric theme with multiple sub-themed dining areas - ice age, tropical, primordial ocean, etc. There are animatronic beasts, lava flows, waterfalls, giant planets in the 'sky', fish tank walls, an ocean-life bar, lightning storms... the art is simply amazing.
