Event Details

Burnin’ Down The River is very DIY. Like all of our events, this one is what you make of it. This year is even more so. The canoe vendor we used last year went out of business. So, this event is going to be a float trip rather than a canoe trip.

It’s all about the themed floats! Bring your own boat, canoe, kayak, inflatable raft, inner tube, air mattress, or mutant conglomeration of inflatable STUFF that you’ve tied together. We suggest collaborating with other folks to buy and/or decorate your vessel in some themed way. We aren’t theme-nazis though so participate if you want to.

Last year, rental for a 2 person canoe was $35 per person. Many inflatable vessels are more expensive than $35 but can accommodate more than 2 people. It’s actually cheaper this route and you can reuse your vessel again and again in the future! Ebay and the big box stores like Target and Walmart sell a variety of inflatable vessels, including floating party islands. You might want to get some paddles too so you can steer. Everyone also needs a life jacket. There is a database on the Midwest Burners Yahoo Group where you can connect with people to go in on purchasing a float or find people who want to share their float.

There is no main burn organized by the Association but anyone is welcome to bring burnable art. Despite the general vibe of relaxation, we always appreciate any complex projects or Theme Camps that any of you ambitious artists may bring. Check the Art & Events page to see what folks are planning.

Members And Guests

You must be a member of Midwest Burners Association or a guest of a member to participate in this gathering.

If you’re not a member yet, please visit the membership page for information on joining Midwest Burners.

The latest a person may apply for MWB membership is July 20, 2010. Membership applications received after this date will be processed after Burnin' Down The River is over.

If you're unsure whether you're an active member, do a Membership Status Request.

A member’s spouse is also considered a member, regardless of whether the spouse applied for membership. A girlfriend, boyfriend, or fiance is not a spouse. The main reason we let spouses of members be de-facto members is because we're taking advantage of something the IRS allows in their rules for our type of organization. If you're considered married by the IRS, then you would be for our purposes.

Guests

Members may bring as many as seven (7) guests. A member MUST be present at Burnin’ Down The River if his or her guests attend this gathering. It is the member’s responsibility to host his or her guests. Sometimes logistics keep groups from arriving together and that is okay. If your guests arrive before you, make sure they have their government-issued IDs and have a print-out of your membership confirmation email.

Age Restrictions

Children 0 to 17 years old may attend Burnin’ Down The River with a parent or legally appointed guardian. In order to establish, that you are a child’s "Legally Appointed Guardian" you must produce a court order or similar legal documents stamped by the clerk of a valid court of law. Parents do not have to produce these legal documents.

Nudity

Since this is an all ages event no nudity is allowed except at the shower area. Also, you MUST keep sexual activity private and away from the eyes of those under 18 years of age. No public sex or porn at this event. See our Minors at MWB Events: Issue Resolved page for the reasoning behind this decision.

Gate - In and Out

This event is small enough that you may leave and return. However, there won’t be much need to as Capt. TLC will have 7 lb bags of ice you can buy.

Gate Hours

Noon Friday, July 24 to Sunday, July 26. When you arrive, everyone with you needs to stop by Center Camp to check-in and get a wristband.
